The Bauchi State officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,
(NDLEA), on Sunday arrested a councillor (name withheld) representing
Kwankiyal ward of Darazo Local Government Area of the state, for drug
trafficking.
The state Commander of the NDLEA, Julius Parah, while parading suspects
at the agency’s headquarters in Bauchi, said the councillor and his
partner were apprehended on June 6, with 29 kilogrammes of Cannabis
Sativa, popularly called Indian Hemp....
Parah said the agency was clamping down on drug dealers, noting that
they had been achieving results in the fight against illicit drug
business and abuse in the state.
He said the agency arrested 34 suspects and confiscated a total of
15.055kg of Indian Hemp and psychotropic sustances in the month of May.
He said 22 of them had been charged to court while others were referred
for counselling.
“One Bukhari Samaila, 25, was arrested on March 13, at Katagatar, Warji
Local Government Area with Cannabis Sativa weighing 350 grammes and was
sentenced to six years or an option of fine of N100,000 on the first
count charge, and another 10 years or an option of fine of N150,000 on
the second count of the charge,” he said.
